EColos IFAS/MBBR Technology

Introduction

EColos is one advanced biological wastewater treatment technology using PE foam-based material as biocarriers. It is high porosity design with trefoil shape and has the advantages of high surface area, easy for biofilm formation, high air flow flush resistance, high hydraulic loading operation, and high corrosion resistance. EColos can be not only applied in integration of conventional activated sludge system, but also used as tertiary treatment system to improve effluent quality and even ammonia removal.

The advantages of EColos technology are:

1. The high porosity design can provide large surface area for microorganism growth and increase the amount of active biological sludge;
2. Active microorganism can be fixed and trapped in the carriers and prevent accidental loss of biological sludge due to system failure or inappropriate sludge drainage;
3. The caused anoxic/oxic zone of general characteristics of biocarrier can increase the variety of bacteria species and result in higher effluent water quality;
4. Higher wear resistance compared to PU biocarrier due to its PE based-material design, which can reduce the refill cost of biocarriers;
5. Very easy in practical operation, and less construction work for existed plant retrofit.
